About the Music

Duke Ellington once described jazz as a tree, with “many branches that reach out to many directions, at the end of each branch is a twig and at the end of each twig there are many different shaped leaves and many varied coloured flowers. It goes east, north, south and everywhere. And everywhere it goes it picks up a certain influence”. Pete Horsfall is an artist who embodies this, a musician whose voice reaches out to many directions with his many different collaborations: Kansas Smittys, Kurt Elling, Jamie Cullum, De La Soul, Flight Call, to name but a few. This album is a glimpse into some of Pete’s influences, from Duke Ellington (The Mooche, Lady of the Lavender Mist) Mobb Deep (Shook Ones), Billy Strayhorn (Azure) and MF Doom (Beef Rapp, Raid, Winter Blues).
