Renowned for his distinctive trumpet sound, characterised by lyrical phrasing, soulful tone, and elegant technique, his performances radiate joy and foster profound connections between artist and audience. His compositional approach, rich in colour, texture, and harmony, draws both bandmates and listeners into a vibrant, contemporary musical world.
Kavuma has released eight albums of original compositions: Mark Kavuma & The Banger Factory – Magnum Opus (2024), The Dandy (2024), Erskine & Kavuma – Ultrasound (2023), The Banger Factory – Warriors (2022), Back-to-Back (2022, his debut piano record), Arashi No Ato (2021), The Banger Factory (2019, Ubuntu), and Kavuma (2018, Ubuntu), which DownBeat magazine named among the year’s finest albums.
The Banger Factory is a collective he founded in 2015, dedicated to delivering exceptional live experiences. The ensemble has grown and transformed from a weekly Brixton residency into a defining voice in UK jazz, showcasing some of the most talented and captivating musicians on today’s scene.
This forthcoming album, ‘Back To The Beginning’, celebrates the ensemble’s decade-long journey. Featuring compositions from each band member, it honours a truly unmistakable and distinctive collective sound.
