Claude Deppa

Claude Deppa is a South African jazz trumpeter who was born on 10 May, 1958 in Cape Town, South Africa. He is best known for his work with the bands of Hugh Masekela, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Miriam Makeba. He has also performed with the likes of Ray Phiri, Sipho Gumede, and Winston Mankunku. Deppa began playing the trumpet at the age of 12 and was soon performing with local bands. He attended the University of Cape Town, where he studied music and jazz. After graduating, he joined the band of Hugh Masekela and toured extensively throughout Africa and Europe. In the late 1980s, Deppa joined the band of Abdullah Ibrahim and toured the United States and Europe. He has also performed with the likes of Ray Phiri, Sipho Gumede, and Winston Mankunku. Deppa has released several solo albums, including “The Journey” (1995), “The Journey Continues” (1998), and “The Journey Home” (2001). He has also collaborated with other musicians, including the likes of Hugh Masekela, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Miriam Makeba.
